Alpaca loses battle

Geronimo, the alpaca imported from New Zealand and who twice tested positive for bovine TB, was yesterday seized by government officials from his home in Gloucestershire. After many desperate attempts by his owner to overturn the High Court’s ruling that he must be put to death, time finally ran out for Geronimo. Accompanied by the police, the officials removed the alpaca from his paddock and loaded into a horsebox.  Angry protestors tried to prevent his removal from the farm but they failed. A post mortem will be carried out to determine whether or not he did have bovine TB.

Chief veterinary officer Christmas Middlemiss said: “This is a terribly sad situation and our sympathies remain with all those affected by this devastating disease.”
